Welcome to Port Elizabeth. The second oldest colonial city in South Africa, but it has the oldest colonial fort in the country and the most "peaceful" as it never fired a shot from its cannons in anger. A wonderful mixture of sea sights that includes the Sancob seal rehabilitation and beautiful beaches.
Also included the Fort Frederick which has a beautiful view of the Port, The Donkin Reserve which has History of Nelson Mandela and the Bantu Nation. Here Debbie of London is enjoying going into Fort Frederick
Although as a youth my friends and I used to get up to mischief in the fort and surrounding park. I am lucky to have a great friend who lives down the road in an original Victorian style house. His family are also wonderful story tellers and cooks and I was told the history of this area and how it was ripped apart in the beginning of "Apartheid era". Slowly but surely this historical suburb is being restored and uplifted, but there is still a long road ahead.
